The curriculum involves 850 hours which exceeds Louisiana state requirements.The course includes extensive instruction and practical experience in facials, hair removal, makeup application, customer service, personal appearance and hygiene, personal motivation and development, retail skills, client record keeping, business ethics, state laws and regulations, salon-type administration, and job interviewing.

The state of Louisiana requires 750-hours of education to become licensed as an esthetician; however, the school is approved by the state to offer a 850-hour esthetics course.With the additional 100 hours the student will be able to master the skills and techniques of makeup and lash artistry.The additional course hours include classroom and clinic floor makeup and lash experience.

Graduates are prepared to be an entry level estheticians.
This course is taught in English. Textbooks and course materials are only offered in the English Language. 

Esthetics 850 Hours Course Overview

Course Hours: 850 clock hours

The course is divided into pre-clinical classroom instruction and clinical service learning experiences.

1. Pre-clinical Classroom Instruction: The first 220 hours are devoted to classroom workshops where students learn design principles, technical information, and professional practices.
2. Clinic Classroom Learning Experience: The remaining 630 hours are spent in the clinic classroom area where practical experience is gained.

Your time at Paul Mitchell The School Baton Rouge for the esthetics program will be divided into four designations:

1. Core Curriculum: This 210 hour time period is dedicated to exploring foundational knowledge and basic esthetics facial, hair removal, and makeup procedures.You will receive individual attention in practical workshops, and you will complete monthly worksheets and periodic tests throughout the course.This is an intense and exciting portion of your experience.
2. Master Makeup Curriculum: During this 100-hour phase, students will master the knowledge and skills in makeup artistry and gain a strong foundation of: cosmetic chemistry, sanitation, makeovers, natural application, evening application, camouflage, corrective, character, high-definition photography, editorial, glamour, and bridal work.Students will learn sales techniques, advanced product usage, and customer relations in preparation for work as makeup artists in salons and spas, onset, in the studio or paramedical spas, or for freelance makeup career opportunities, eyelash extensions.Students must have a passing grade of 80% in all areas.
3. Clinic Classroom Learning Experience: You will enter a new phase of specialty classroom workshops coupled with challenging practical services that will continue to build you into a beauty industry professional.
4. Classroom Learning Experience: During this phase of your learning, you will be introduced to guest speakers, prescriptive selling, motivation, self-improvement, body treatments, and emerging technologies.You will use your own technical and therapeutic abilities, coupled with the assistance of Learning Leaders, to provide service to guests.You will make discoveries and learn relationship-building skills that will ensure your success in this exciting, diverse field.
5. Creative Curriculum: You will dress, act, and work like a beauty industry professional.You will use your own technical and therapeutic abilities, coupled with the assistance of Paul Mitchell The School Baton Rouge - Learning Leaders, to prepare for your future beauty industry career.

The institution offers employment assistance to help graduates’ efforts to secure education-related employment that includes, but is not limited to training in professionalism, resume’ development, job interview preparation and job search skills.

Esthetics 850 Hours Program Testing and Grading Procedures

The following exams and grading procedures are incorporated during the student’s 850 hour course:

1. Academic theory exams: Students must receive a grade of 80% or higher on each assigned theory exam.
2. Core written and practical skills evaluation: Students must receive a grade of 80% or higher on each written exam and each practical skill exam in order to complete the Core program.The exams are an overview of instruction taught during the Core schedule.All Core written and practical skill exams must be passed with a 80% in order to transition to the Clinic Classroom.If students are unable to pass each exam after two attempts, the student may be asked to withdraw from the program and re-enroll in the next available Core class start date.
3. Final written and practical: The written exam covers an overview of all theory instruction, Louisiana state law, and other items covered on the state esthetics exam.Students must receive a grade of 80% or higher on all final exams.
4. Practical clinic classroom worksheets: Students must complete all clinic classroom practical worksheets.Practical worksheet completion must reflect student’s Clinic Classroom performance and guest count.
